About Carleton Heights
The laid back neighbourhood of Carleton Heights has a population of 7,586 at Canada 2016 Census and you'll find it in Ottawa's River Ward, bounded by the Central Experimental Farm to the north, Rideau River to the east, Fisher Avenue to the west and at the junction of Prince of Wales Drive and Fisher Avenue to the south.
Here homes were developed after World War II for War Veterans, thanks to the Veterans' Land Act. Most homes were built in the 1950s. While the houses are small, they were built on larger lots which were later subdivided. Today you can find many inexpensive condos and townhomes in Carleton Heights.
The neighbourhood has an abundance of apartment buildings as well as detached and semi-detached homes, giving lots of choice. Most of the available housing was built between 1960 and 1980.
Located within the area is the Carleton Heights Community Centre, run by the City of Ottawa and offering recreation for preschoolers all the way up to older adults, including play groups, camps, fitness classes, sports, and arts; and Curling Club.
Carleton Heights Public School is for Junior Kindergarten to Grade Six, offering English and Middle French Immersion
The northern part of the neighbourhood is sometimes referred to as Hog's Back owing to its proximity to the Hog's Back Falls and its associated Park. Residents can also take advantage of Mooney's Bay, just down Riverside Drive.
Walking in this neighbourhood is pretty much exclusively for exercise, as residents rely on owning a car or travelling by bus.
