About Kemptville
Originally called Clothier's Mill in 1819 after Lyman Clothier purchased 100 acres and built the first sawmill and two dwellings with his four sons.
Later named Kemptville in 1829 after Sir James Kempt, the Governor of Upper Canada who once camped on the banks of the Rideau River near the settlement. Kemptville is 56 km south of downtown Ottawa via Veterans Memorial Highway 416 and is part of the larger municipality of North Grenville. At Census 2021, the population was 4,051.
Surrounded by parks and trails, the beautiful Kemptville Creek begins southwest of Kemptville and empties 4km northeast into the Rideau River. Kemptville is largely forested and offers quite a lot of farmland, with homes lying next to it.
You'll find some older homes as well as waterfront, but developers have also been here for a while now, and there are lots of homes for sale with a good variety of housing types. Kemptville is only 56 km to the US border bridge in Ogdensburg, NY, and only 58 km to Brockville.
Kemptville is home to the eQuinelle Golf Club - Ottawa's newest championship course along with The Fireside Grill overlooking the course where you don't have to be a member to reserve your spot.
There are three elementary schools in the town - Holy Cross Catholic School, Kemptville Public School, and South Branch Elementary School; two high schools - North Grenville District High School, and St. Michael Catholic High School.
In 2017 Kemptville celebrated its 160th Anniversary and in 2018, North Grenville elected their first female mayor.
