About Bells Corners

Located in south Ottawa, with a population of 9,272 (at Canadian Census 2016), Bells Corners has a rural charm, surrounded by the Greenbelt, known as Stony Swamp Conservation, providing many parks and a family-friendly atmosphere.

This growing community contains a 3 km retail strip along Robertson Road that has become a major thoroughfare. Residents have easy access to shopping and amenities such as FreshCo and Loblaws, Canadian Tire, LCBO, Staples, Winners, Kichesippi Beer and Whipersnapr Brewing Companies.

There are restaurants to cover every palate, some of which include Cyranos, The Brew Table, Lapointe Seafood Grill, Mongolian Village, The Works, Zola’s, The Butchery, Thai Flame and Cozmos Souvlaki. There are a few hotels in Bells Corners with many nearby in neighbouring communities.

OC Transpo runs express and local bus routes to Bells Corners. As part of Stage 2 of Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, the Moodie and Bayshore Confederation Line stations are scheduled to open just north of Bells Corners in 2025.

The City of Ottawa has designated Bells Corners as a Business Improvement Area (BIA), with over 500 members, that champion the business success of its membership by promoting it as vibrant and healthy, attracting more people to live, shop, work and gather.

While at least $1 million had been spent on sprucing up Robertson Road 10 years ago, this renewed attention on the community prompted a Bells Corners Community Improvement Plan (CIP) grant program in 2016, lasting five years, which provides financial incentives to qualifying local commercial property owners to redevelop lands or buildings that are underutilized, idle of in need of repair or upgrade.

It’s a self-financing program from private investment.

Arbeatha Park neighbourhood, located east of Moodie Drive, west of Highway 416, north of West Hunt Club Road, and south of Lynwood Village. Arbeatha Park is a more established neighbourhood in Bells Corners with many older bungalows built in the 60s and 70s. This neighbourhood is very family friendly with plenty of parks, including Quinpool Park, D.A. Moodie Park, and the Stony Swamp Conservation Area just a short drive away.

Lynwood Village is a neighbourhood, located in Ottawa south of Robertson Road, west of the 416, north of Arbeatha Park, and east of Richmond Road. This neighbourhood has grown considerably since the 60s when building in this area really began to boom. The style of home most prominent in Lynwood Village are bungalows with some variation.

Lynwood Village is just a short drive away from Highway 417, giving its residents easy access to other areas of the city. It is also close to Kanata which has its high-tech centre as well as many shopping centres. This neighbourhood has many amenities such as Bell Centennial Arena and Lynwood Village Community Building.

Close-by parks include Donoghue Memorial Park, George Wilson Park, and Dante Park. Highway 416 provides access to the popular dog-walking expanse known as Bruce Pit and large indoor Bayshore Shopping Centre via Richmond Road.

Lynwood Village, although close to many amenities, also has a natural setting close to the Stony Swamp Conservation Area, Arbeatha Park, and Lynwood Park. It has many features prominent in rural areas and is conveniently located close to many amenities of the city. For those looking for a both a rural and urban vibe, this is the perfect neighbourhood in which to live.

Part of the larger neighbourhood of Bells Corners and founded in 1969 is Westcliffe Estates, located south of Robertson Road, west of Moodie Drive, North of Richmond Road, and east of Kanata.

Westcliffe Estates is a newer neighbourhood that contains a number of condos, mostly townhome style as opposed to apartment-style homes. The names are unusual and will appeal to anyone who loves Shakespeare.

Although shopping centres are not abundant in Westcliffe Estates, it does have some natural elements not common to most urban neighbourhoods. It is home to Westcliffe Park and close to Stony Swamp Conservation Area, the largest forested area in the Greenbelt with a number of NCC nature trails and boardwalks for strolling all year long and for snowshoeing and tobogganing in the winter.

The skating rink at the Westcliffe Community Centre runs from December to March. Spring sports include T-ball, softball and soccer for ages 3-12, and early summer helps residents come together for a community garage sale.
