About Riverside South - a Neighbourhood in South Ottawa

Riverside South is bounded by Leitrim Road to the north and Rideau Road to the south, Bowesville road to the east and the Rideau River to the west. Located in the former City of Gloucester, Riverside South is in the south of the city of Ottawa, southwest of the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa.

The Vimy Memorial Bridge, completed in 2014, now connects Riverside South’s Earl Armstrong Road on the East of the Rideau River to Barrhaven’s Strandherd Drive on the West.

This area was primarily farmland in the early 1990s and now with extensive housing developments is growing at an incredible pace, similar to Findlay Creek to the east. According to a December 3, 2021 CBC News article “New home construction in Ottawa hits record high”, newer suburbs outside of the Greenbelt such as Riverside South “are growing especially quickly”.

In fact, according to the 2016 Census, the population is 14, 672 and the population density is 485% higher than Ottawa.

At the heart of the community is the Rideauview Community Centre offering a variety of programs, day camps, youth drop-ins, and activities. Residents can enjoy parks and greenspaces, connected by trails and pathways within the Rideau Valley watershed under the jurisdiction of the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.

There is easy access to major road arteries such as Riverside Drive, Hunt Club Road. And in the near future, Riverside South will become the new home of the Limebank Station on the Trillium Line LRT, which will provide local residents with direct access to Ottawa’s city centre.
